Our speaker for July will be
RON RAY OAM
Volunteer speaker, Australian Maritime Museum
Ron will talk about the early life of Lieutenant James Cook and his first voyage to the Pacific to observe and record the transit of Venus across the face of the sun and then to search for the mythical land of Terra Australis.
The talk will explore the construction of the replica of Cook’s ship of exploration HMB Endeavour, what life was like on board for his crew of 98 sailors and marines, how the ship was operated and sailed in the eighteenth century, what was the fate of the original HMB Endeavour.
